Arianna Huffington
Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington has been a Greek American columnist, author and businesswoman for over 20 years. She has written fifteen books, and she is co-founder of The Huffington Post. Arianna Huffington is an author, philanthropist, television personality as well as the proprietor of the independently free online news publication The Huffington Post. Originally from Greece she was able to move to England at the age of sixteen and then graduated from Cambridge University with an MA in Economics. The first ever foreign-born student to hold the position of president of the highly regarded debating group The Cambridge Union, at 21, she was able to take over the presidency. Being a conservative syndicated blog when she graduated, she became the voice of Huffington Post. Her fame helped to attract several prominent contributors to share their views on current events, politics and culture. Arianna was famous after she was elected as an independent candidate in the California recall elections in order to replace Governor Davis. Apart from this she also directed an Detroit project to promote the use of fuel-efficient cars. Forbes identified her the most powerful female in the media industry in 2009. Her ranking was in the 12th spot on Forbes' listing. The Guardian also included her on the list of top 100 media in 2009. In the year 2011, AOL Inc. acquired The Huffington Post and made the president of that media group which included many existing AOL properties, including Engadget AOL music Style list and Patch Media. Their parents are Elli and Konstantinos Stasinopoulos. They were an expert in management and a journalist. She was extremely close to her father. However, it was her relationship with her mother which has shaped her. As a child she demonstrated leadership skills that she's still known for. When she moved to England, she was sixteen to further her studies and then enrolled in Girton College Cambridge. During her college days she was a member of the college debate group Cambridge Union where she became the third foreign, and first female president. In 1972 she graduated with a master's degree in Economics. She became a writer, a critic television host, as well as a columnist following her graduation. Also, she appeared on an edition of Face the music along with Bernard Levin and began writing books taking editorial help from Bernard Levin.
